• Samūm was one of five winners of the December 2017–January 2018 Design a Castle Cat contest, designed by @henrytasman.
  • According to the original artist, Samūm is a caracal, a medium-sized wild cat native to Africa, the Middle East, Central Asia, and India, although Samūm's tail is exceedingly long for the species.
  • The word samūm, usually transliterated as Simoom, is Arabic for a strong, dry, dust-laden wind.
• Samūm might have been inspired by the Khajiit, an anthropomorphic feline race inhabiting the deserts of The Elder Scrolls universe who are often thieves and merchants.
• His line, "Justice rains... no, sky is clear," might be a dig at the Overwatch character Pharah, who says when using her ultimate ability, "Justice rains from above!"
• His line, "Don't trust anyone. Even yourself," repeats an internet meme that goes similarly.
