Hi! My name is Moviesign, and I’m the Fandom Wiki Manager for Castle Cats Wiki. I am here to help the community and be a liaison to full-time Fandom staff. If you ever have a question or issue relating to the wiki, editing, styling, templates, etc., please contact me on my message wall / talk page. —Moviesign (talk) 20:26, May 1, 2019 (UTC)
Bureaucrat is the highest level of admin for a fandom site in the wikia systems. While a lot of the layout choices can be attributed to my efforts -- for better or for worse -- I cannot claim creation of this fandom site. That honor goes to Fan. (I'd link Fan, but they aren't active).
I wanted to know whether it's something you think is worth doing. It's just a mockup and isn't fully functional yet but I/we could work on it some more if you think it's the beginning of a good idea. :)
[Edit] I do like the icon before the words, actually. Doing a quick test, it seems like the visual difference was that I'd set the original infobox layout to stacked. Switching it to slim it just was a matter of removing a variable in the existing top level template. The space padding on skills is was a concern when I was mucking about with it, you may have provided an elegant solution to that concern, though.
I'm not certain if it was a visual question or a data management question that you were raising, though, but I do like the visual differences, for the most part.
Exactly, the stacked option makes the box take too much space imo.
This was totally a visual question as the issue of blank space between the top of the article and the description section has been raised before. I think it mitigates it a bit at least. The rest was just me playing around to see what might look better. :)
Probably could have just put this as a comment on that Social Media page you just created, but didn't want others going "huh?". There's another Castle Cat social media type-thingy (Castle Cats Amino). I kinda assumed that you already knew about it (you seem to find a lot of the CC stuff around), but then it wasn't included on said page ^... or were you wondering what to classify it as. I mean, I don't think the developaws run it, and yet, apparently they were made official (see here).
[Btw, w/ the discord server widget (I you're doing that..?)... I think this update means you don't have to get FANDOM staff to enable it as it says use importjs.]
Actually, I've never even heard of Aminos until just now. I think it counts as "official" in a similar way that we do: we're the "officially recognized" English Language Wikia, yet don't truly hold a direct affiliation with them, which is to say we're "fan operated/ managed." [So, I looked at the Amino for a bit, and I just... what even? I don't get it. It looks like a topical modern BBS focused on art sharing... don't get me wrong, it doesn't make it unworthy of inclusion, and if people use it, more power to them, I just don't see rhyme or reason or point behind it... but maybe that's the whole point? Idk.]
Yeah. I'm trying to get the discord advertised, at the very least; the widget requires information that I don't have access to, so I'm hoping to hear back from the owner/operator with their decision.
I only discovered them a little while ago. Still trying to get my head around them [though the only one I've really seen has been the CC one], but thought they counted as a "Social Media"... though, in reality, I have no idea.
Thought that'd be the case - just wanted to let you know that you didn't have to contact staff anymore... if you hadn't already/if you weren't aware. Meant to do that for a little while now, oops.
I haven't read anything on the FB. Though, not everything needs to be on the FB to be official so... [Speaking of the Amino: I think someone (the leader?) from the there is on here actually (User:TikiTheAngel24) if not... then the names are similar (↠☾Tiki The Angel :tm: ☾↞)]
The widget seems to be doing an impression of Angel ("Watch me spin!"). Wonder what's wrong with it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ [my JS knowledge is about as great as my knowledge of why people think Gryffindor is the best house Aminos]
Yeah, lol. It's been doing that since it was implemented. I double and triple checked the info I put in. Everything seems fine with the code and the ID, though... so unless the server ID had a typo when I was given it, or the settings aren't set properly (both of which are Discord-side things that I don't have access to), it technically should be working. I'm tempted to create one to do a quick test, see if it is even capable of working on here.
I should update this conversation: I tossed our discord [read: the one specifically for this wikia, which has been advertised a total of 0 times across all platforms] information into the ID page, and it loaded up instantaneously. I'm not sure why it isn't working with Ashley's...
Oh, an update! Yay! I remember seeing your edit summary [I wasn't looking at the widget for that particular one minute]. Heh, I thought it was just a random server that you made :P I assume it's as desolate as the Wikia Chat..?
Though, the good thing is... it's not my fault this time! XD
Did you wind up asking Ashley again? Or have you been putting that off in case offense is taken/have no time/haven't got around to it/it is actually SiF's fault/it's something else?
Yeah. But only due to not advertising. It is kinda both. It has chat rooms for topics, and a ranking hierarchy, rooms with permissions set for certain ranks, etc., but it is mostly just a random server. I'm keeping it on the backburner, just in case Ash's discord ever gets inundated with people/questions regarding, particularly, the wikia. Though, she could also make a room specifically for wikia questions, lol, so it might stay unnecessary.
I worry about pressing the issue and causing offense, mostly. It's always your fault. In case it's not obvious, I'm kidding..
Ohhh... thought it was a bit weird to do what I did. [especially since it didn't actually display as a link]
Wait... did you say something about doing this for all not mentioned in the Hero Book? Uhm... since I think that Rocket was actually the first cat this was done for does that mean that we all need to go through the Cat info and Book templates and actually check that all genders are correct and not just someone's opinion? (leaving the references in the former for the social media posts when found/putting 'Unknown' when nothing is found) Or do you just mean for in future when they're not in the HB?
[if it's the first one then, wow, that'll take a while, but I suppose at least then we'll know that everything's 100% accu-rat]
Mostly for the future. We can do the previous ones whenever. Toughest to find and link would be Robin's, because IIRC: it was technically said by them in a comment as opposed to a full on status update. [Though, prior to/around last year's March 8th, so at least the time frame is narrow.]
Images? Yes (whole reason I joined). New pages? No - pages like Gatsby's were originally created by annon users (so, unless it's changed..?).
It's pretty fortunate this wiki hasn't attracted a lot of anonymous vandals (and, well, vandals in general). Glad that annons are allowed to edit, though [for multiple reasons], thanks for keeping it that way :)
Apparently the in game font is Paytone One... which is a Google font (with open font licence), meaning we can have it on the wiki if we chose to! I was thinking we could possibly use this for the hero book blurb/entry/the cat's bio, the traits, the news sections, alchemy description and whatnot [to make it look more like it does in Castle Cats], possibly with an outline [like on Category:Traits]. Wasn't sure if you knew about it, so... thought I'd inform you so you'd definitely know. Plus importing it requires CSS [and making it easier to use would require CSS classes also], which would be up to you.
Edit: Oh... Sorry. Should have put this in your discussion post, wasn't thinking I guess.
Hmm... I was under the impression that the css page worked like a css stylesheet that was automatically linked to all (or most) of the pages in the wiki... don't know for sure but. [Clarification: I thought that FANDOM automatically links all pages to the wiki stylesheet in the <head>, and that we don't have to go and manually link every. single. page. to it like we'd have to do if it was a website we'd built from scratch (like we do in ICT webdesign). Apart from that, kinda just assumed that it was like your average css stylesheet.]
It's possible that there could be a way to have it automatically apply; I'm looking, but I've also increased your access to include CSS functionality, in case you find it first (or find additional CSS stuff that we can use that you'd like to).
I think it also gives you access to the topnav editor, in case I end up forgetting to modify it again, lol.
Looks weird not being "content-moderator"... I think it does (and a whole bunch of other stuff as well), but I don’t think I’m going to touch the majority of it... probably will wind up messing up the entire wiki or some magical feat like that.
I think the only way it would automatically apply to every page without any other edits at all (though I am definitely NOT a CSS expert, barely know the basics and some random quirky stuff) would be if we put the body tag as having that font or a heading or paragraph... that would make it across the wiki though, not just specific sections. Still think that the only way to do that is classes... It would be awesome to be wrong though. [And, now... sleep. That’s always a good idea Zzzzzz]
Just thought I'd tell you that the top navigation still has the event categories for Purrismas and MY, when you have time could you please change them to Valentines and LNY? Thanks and have a nice weekend :)
