- Cleo's name and appearance suggest she is a reference to the pharaohs and culture of ancient Egypt.
- Cleo is a shortening of Cleopatra, a name shared by several queens of the Ptolemaic dynasty of Egypt.
- Her Hero Book description mentions that Cleo spreads beauty, something for which the most famous Cleopatra is renowned.
- She wears a headcloth known as a nemes and worn by Egyptian pharaohs.
- In her tail she holds an ankh, the Egyptian symbol of life.
- Her designer says Cleo is a Siamese Sphynx cat, a breed named after the Great Sphinx of Giza, with pointed coloration.[2]
- Cleo is a shortening of Cleopatra, a name shared by several queens of the Ptolemaic dynasty of Egypt.
- Cleo was originally named Isis, after the Egyptian goddess, but her name was changed to avoid negative modern connotations.
