- Bubbles is a reference to the late pop icon Michael Jackson.
- Bubbles was the name of Jackson's chimpanzee companion.
- According to his Hero Book entry, Bubbles has acquired Jackson's well-known honorific, "King of Pop".
- Bubbles' second outfit is a reference to Jackson's song "Thriller", as presumably is the zombie hamster in his Rank 4 outfit.
- His description and other lines incorporate the titles of Jackson's album Bad and songs "Beat It" and "Billie Jean".
- "Hee, hee!", another of Bubbles' lines, also appears in Jackson's songs.
